Wow, what a conclusion to Patrick W. Carr’s The Staff and the Sword trilogy! Errol and his companions return from the land of their enemies with the knowledge the king has died and with knowledge that will rock the church’s beliefs. Duke Weir has taken control of the kingdom, and this is not good news. Even worse is the barrier which kept out demonic forces from the kingdom fell at the king’s death, which means a huge number of demons, those they possess, and regular mortal men will be swarming in for the kill.
How will the kingdom ever survive such an onslaught? Desperate times call for desperate measures. Hope is sought in unlikely places, found and lost and found and lost again. Despite the calamity before them, Errol and all those who fight for the side of light, do not surrender to the despair of knowing how terribly outnumbered they are and the hopelessness of their plight. Sacrifices are willingly made, for many the ultimate one. Errol has known for some time he will be one of those sacrifices called for. Faith is questioned, rocked to its foundations, renewed. Enemies become allies. Strength is found. Courage is on vast display. So much happening on several fronts to stop the slide into chaos. Will it be enough? You have to read this and find out!
