Long live the King! This story takes place in an alternate, modern-day Britain where the monarchy is in a sad state and soon will be abolished. Prime Minister Thomas Warring has set the stage well to become the UK’s first president. He has not, however, counted on James Arthur Stuart, who does not have such a middle name for nothing.
Merlin does count on James, introduces himself to the likable young Scotsman and reveals the man’s destiny. With enemies both from the present and the distant past, James must either find within himself the courage to take on the evil and return Britain to its former greatness or watch it fall into utter ruin.
I love James. Once he gets over the shock, he passionately embraces his calling and inspires others to rekindle their love for the monarchy. This book also contains a scathing indictment of the media and how it shapes and warps public opinion, similar to how C. S. Lewis points out the same thing in That Hideous Strength. But James knows how to manipulate it as well as his enemies. Love it!
